Giacomo Leopardi (Recanati, 1798- Naples, 1837) is the first great poet of Italian Romanticism.
Reading Leopardi's verses caused me great emotion. His work explores and delves into the essence of the human condition. I wrote this song shortly after the poems of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. Despite their differences, the content brings them closer. At least, they suggested a very similar musical style to me, some introverted melodies and a restrained piano that underlines the character of the text.
L'infinito is one of his most famous poems that is part of the Canti (Songs) cycle.
